Russian investment firm buying more Facebook shares

FBSAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) Russian investment firm Digital Sky Technologies has begun buying more shares in Facebook, seeking to expand its stake in the world’s No. 1 social networking company, Reuters reported today citing two sources familiar with the matter.

They told the agency that DST has begun purchasing shares directly from Facebook’s shareholders. The social networking phenomenon, which counts Microsoft Corp as an investor and has signed up 300 million users, is considered one of the tech world’s most promising candidates for an initial public offering, though CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in May an IPO was “a few years out.” Read the rest of this entry »

Softbank – with most signups on Japanese market in August

SoftbankSoftbank Corp, Japan’s No.3 wireless carrier, outran rivals NTT DoCoMo Inc and KDDI Corp in the number of net new subscribers it signed up in August, after relinquishing its lead in July to DoCoMo.

Softbank, which supplies Apple Inc’s iPhone in Japan, said it signed up 115,100 new subscribers minus cancellations, while No. 1 carrier DoCoMo said it grabbed 112,900 and No. 2 KDDI said it took 77,800.

Sprint to launch Android OS smartphone in October

HTC Hero AndroidSprint Nextel Corp. announced that it will sell its first smartphone featuring Google’s Android OS in October in the United States. The touch-screen smartphone, named Hero and made by HTC, will be available to customers on Oct. 11 at the price of $179.99 after rebates, the third largest wireless carrier in the United States said.
